European Parliament members sing ‘Auld Lang Syne’ after ratifying U.K. Brexit deal
European Parliament members sang “Auld Lang Syne” as a way to bid farewell to their U.K. colleagues on Wednesday in Brussels after the European Union parliamentary body voted in favour of ratifying the Brexit agreement.
Lawmakers voted 621 in favour and 49 against the agreement, sealed between Britain and 27 other member states, more than three years since the U.K. voted in favour to leave the European Union.
Britain’s 73 departing EU lawmakers headed for an “Au Revoir” party in the EU chamber after the vote.
Wednesday’s vote paves the way for the U.K. to leave the EU on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020.
